The best advice I could offer is to "Dive Head First into the Manual".
No disrespect meant, but one of the bigest problems with users giving up on detectors, writing them off as poor units, is because of the failure to read the owners manual. I'm not suggesting your doing this, but I just what to bring to attention how importaint reading the manual first is.
I would have the detector set up ready to hunt, with the manual open to the firdt pages. I would follow the steps for the main adjustments, book in one hand, detector in the other.
I can't remember if the new units come with a insturctional CD disk. If not JB has a lot of the info on his Baron site. If you need a CD of it, drop me a note with your address, and I will mail you a copy.
