I use a 5.5 inch coil on my A&S Baron almost exclusively, and probably half the time on the Cointrax. As Paul said, it's almost as deep as the 8 inch coil and works really for shooting between junk. After I used a 5.5 a couple of times I got a second one in case something happened to the first one, like my wife maybe stepping on it and smushing it like she did the 4 inch coil for my Gold Mountain 1650 
. No problems getting dimes at 7+ inches using one on the A&S in my mild ground, and deeper with the Cointrax 2.2.
