Sometimes more is not better even though the unit is running stable, ( most important ). By cranking the gain up, one also increases the units response to small pieces of crap metal, tin foil, and hot rocks.
You may find that reducing the gain a few points you won’t loose any appreciable depth.
Just something to think about.
