I recall a silly post on the big site. This guy was wading in the ocean surf with an Ecalibur. He said he got some small thing like a ring or whatever at 18" in salt surf.
Now here's how he did the math; he said his pole scoop can dig 6" deep in one scoop, and he said the object took 3 scoops to get it.
For those landlubbers that never tried to dig a hole in moving surf...it can't be done 
it refills as quick as you dig.
