The last several times I used the Cointrax, all here it town, I noticed it was more unstable than normal at higher settings, but I figured it was interference from the wireless internet transmitters on about every 4th or 5th light pole as they affect the Goldtrax, A&S and affected the Golden µMax even more. The Cointrax was more unstable in all metal mode but I could reduce the sensitivity to 5 and while it chattered it wasn't too bad. I used it, or tried to, Thursday and it was so bad it was unusable, but I was near the highschool and there are several of the wireless transmitters there.
Yesterday I took it out of town, to the old house/store in Smithville where I found the four silver coins and buffalo nickel I posted about below, and it was the same or worse there. Continuous false signals in disc mode and when I got a target signal the coil was three to four inches past the actual target location. All metal mode was useless, nonstop chatter. I checked it out this morning to see if it had a loose wire, bad connection or the ribbon cable was bad but didn't find anything. Just for the heck of it I took the V 2.20 chip out, put in the V 2.20 prototype chip and it works fine. Completely stable, even at sensitivity 3 in both modes and standing 50 feet or so from a wireless transmitter.
