Thanks JB,
You're right, this setup will benefit those searching for structures in areas one can not swing a detector due to undergrowth, The cane like coil setup can easily poke in-between the thick brush and may have benefited you when searching for the Confederate veterans lodge.
I feel this will open up opportunities for those needing to search allot of ground in a short period or for searching continues miles of terrain as fast as one can walk, I'm excited and plan on using this technique more in the future....Already planning on carrying with me a broke-down S-handle with lower rod and 8" or wide scan DD coil in my back pack so I can still have full use of swinging a detector if I desire too when locating mass amounts of ferrous and non-ferrous targets. Just unhook the coil cane setup and plug the hip-mount Baron into the S-handle with 8" or wide-scan DD coil and back to using the coil swing approach again in an instant
I use a set of Rattlersnake phones, The one with one ear cup. And the picture doesn't show it very well but I am carrying a back pack and wearing a set of Rattlesnake phones. Plus, The coil is only a 1/2" inch from the tip so the lower 1/2" inch portion of the cane is in contact with the ground absorbing the constant impact.
I chewed on this idea for a while and found the Baron to be the best detector for this type of setup, The housing can easily be hip-mounted and the Goldtrax has the all-metal staccato feature. The CoinTrax module with 2.20 chip using the all-metal staccato feature could have worked too, But I was worried coming across tough soil so I went with the Goldtrax which is already a proven detector for mineralzed ground.
Thanks again JB and I'll surely be keeping you guys and gals updated with this setup, I guess what really is exciting is being able to cover ground as fast as one can walk.
