I was sitting around thinking, which in my case can be dangerous at times, and thought I remembered something being posted about the LED meter on the Viper working something like the Deepsearch mode on the Cointrax. I searched the Archives and found the reference, which was in a post I made
. I also found something Jbird posted that was in his Viper manual that the post I made was in response to.
When Kellyco began its initial testing of the Cobra 11 it was found to be one of the deepest most sensitive detectors available today. Further field tests indicated to us that deeper targets on the fringe of the detectors signal were not producing enough energy to drive the audio circuit. To eliminate the problem a series of LED's were installed prior to the audio circuit. Less energy is required to light the LED's than drive the audio circuit. Those deeper targets are indicated on the LED display.
That's the way the Cointrax is configured, the signal goes through the LED meter circuits before it does the audio circuits, and George said the meter circuits got a longer look at a potential target and would be more accurate than the audio on deep targets. If it works the same way on the Viper, the LED panel not working could possibly be the reason Paul couldn't get his Viper to work properly. Or it may not be as I'm just speculating, and that's almost as dangerous as when I try to think.
