After trying different settings for a half hour and then using it for about an hour and half I can understand why he was frustrated with it. With iron accept on, the notch set to give low tone on nickels and high tones on zincs and up the notched out range doesn't give a signal but nickels, zincs, higher coins and all iron objects give a signal. With iron rejected and the notch set for nickels to give a low tone, the tones on the high end of the notch vary from all low tones to some low tones and some high tones, depending on where the pointer on the notch knob is set. I got the notch set to where nickels and zinc pennies gave a low tone, copper pennies mixed high/low tones and dimes and quarters a high tone. That setting worked okay so I used it set that way and got the coins (about $2), tabs and Chicago thing in the photo, but the Disc/ID/Iron reject pot has to be bad as the setting points change when it's set to reject iron if the Viper is turned off and back on. Also, the instructions in the manual for setting the notch are all screwed up, not even close to being correct according to the way my A&S and the Vipers has to be set.
