Other than the squirrelly way the notch is acting and not being able to set the tone break to give a high tone on coins below copper pennies the Viper works really well. I don't know if it's any deeper than the A&S but it air tests a nickel about an inch father, gives a lot louder audio reponse in disc mode on coins in the 5 to 6 inch range, reponds to targets off to the side of the coil farther and it's noiser. I can darn sure understand why you were having trouble explaining how the Viper was acting, I've used it for about 15 hours and still don't really know how to explain it.
