There are hot rocks here that null the threshold in all metal mode, but as long as the ground balance is set a little positive they don't give a response in disc mode. Even with the ground balance negative the rocks are easy to tell though. They still null in all metal mode but in disc mode they give a double signal, a weak high tone as the coil nears the rock and another weak high tone as the coil is leaving the rock. The Barons handle the rocks better than the other brands I've used, except maybe the multi-frequency Minelabs and some of the Garrett models. Coal cinders don't seem to affect the Barons, but the ground here is basically mineral free so the results I get with any detector will likely be different from what someone with more mineralization would get.
