When I designed this case funds were extremely limited as we were just starting up with virtually no capital, except the income from sales of TF800 to White's. The investment of $1600 would secure a die for an aluminum extrusion. With a thought to ease of assembly this fit the requirements. The thought was to provide a means to hipmount without requring the purchase of an additional attachment. That is why the slots on the bottom of the case were designed to not only mount on the rod, but to be used with a belt. After all the old gunslingers had holsters on a separate belt, why not a detector? Another option of course, is a chest mount, but to put it in a pouch? Of course, the eventual goal was to have an injection molded case from plastic which was done.
