Hey Mike,
I've seen a few Baron mods and to be honest I feel the ones with the stock housing mounted underneath the arm-rest would be the best way to go like the one you have in the pic above.
The reason why I say this is I've done a few mods in my time and the Baron was the toughest, I don't think I would want to tackel another one and keeping it simple would be the best route.
I have Scott's old yellow Baron mod and one of my own, They are both nice looking and well balanced but if I had to do it all over again I would go with the simplest conversion and just mount the complete Baron housing underneath the arm-rest like the one Kevin posted with one of mine several years back.
Anyway, Here are some pics from almost the ground up when I did this baron mod and a Pic of Scott's Baron mod. The housing is from a china made metal detector and uses the Whites 12-volt battery pack, Note the housing used for the modules it's a gutted out alarm clock
