The Cointrax has impressive performance, and it bangs in hard on small targets. I need to use mine more but I'm addicted to the A&S right now. I got in a couple of relatively short hunts the last couple of days, nothing noteworthy but better than no detecting at all. Yesterday I hunted a little of the area outlined in white in the photo. That's the grassy area between the drive that goes by where the swimming and wading pools used to be, and a playground and baseball field still are, and the street. The swimming and wading pools are gone now, but from the time the pools were built in 1951 the half of the grassy strip nearest the pool has been used for parking. I've found a lot of coins there, including quite a few silver coins. Only clad yesterday, but enough to make the hunt worthwhile.This afternoon I hunted a small section of a vacant lot the city owns that had a house on it for 40 years and then a bait shop/quick stop for about 20 years. I've never hunted a place that has as many screw off aluminum bottlecaps, and except for three all of them I dug were flattened. No exaggeration, every swing produced multiple high tone signals that were flattened bottlecaps. Started with the A&S/5.5 coil but it won't reject bottlecaps, and after I dug 10 or 12 within the first couple of steps I switched to the Viper. The Viper won't reject bottlecaps either but it gives a low or mixed tone on them, when it wants to. I used the 5.5 coil on it and inched along for just about two hours, but only got 9 memorial pennies dating from 1961 to 1979, a 1945 wheatie and a few pieces of high conductive junk. Got to be some older coins there, if I can muster up the patience to find them. The area outlined in white in the photo is the lot, the white things on the lot are concrete slabs and the building just above it is the animal shelter.
