In the four years since I retired I've found 15 silver coins one year, 21 one year and 17 one year, but this year only 14. Today it was mid 60's and sunny so I left at 11 this morning determined to find a silver coin. I went to a ballfield where I played industrial league softball and in tournaments form the early 1960's until the field was closed in 1971. A rest home was built on what was the infield and right field, but most of what was left and center field is vacant and as far as I know had never been hunted. I hunted for almost five hours and found a lot of coins, including five dimes with 1965 and 1966 dates, 1965 and 1966 quarters, several pennies with 1960 to 64 dates and a 1952 wheatie but no silver. Also got a few newer coins lost by either the guys who mow it or kids playing there. As much activity as that field had in the 1960's there's gotta be a few silver coins there. If I can slip away from my oldest daughters birthday party I'm gonna give it another try tomorrow, but I'll have to settle for 14 silver coins this year. The area outline in gray in the photo is what's left of the ballfield, and it's a lot bigger area than it looks in the photo.
