It may be faulty memory, but I don't think the 1266's Jim and I had were as noisy as the one I've been using lately. It also doesn't discriminate out trash quite as deep as those did. The ones we had would click, pop and chatter on targets below the discrimination settings, but other than rusty iron a coin size piece of trash wouldn't give a good signal unless it was over 6 inches deep. If I hunted Civil War relics the one I've been using would be ideal, but it's definitely not suited for coin and jewelry hunting at the places I normally hunt.
