My A&S, same as Cobra II, is by far the best detector I've had for finding nickels without digging a lot of nickel range trash. I know I'm missing most gold rings but in really trashy places with lots of tabs I turn on notch and set it to just accept zincs, then set the Audio to where a nickel is just accepted. Unless bent or broken, I can tell tabs, including the two hole stay tabs, from nickels by pinpointing, set the coil on the ground over the target, toggle back to disc mode and it will give nonstop low tone beeps. So will bent or broken tabs, but the ones not bent or broken will either go silent or give high tone beeps. Kind of like using reverse discrimination like we did on the old VLF/TR's, but backwards. It's good enough on nickels that some of the guys I hunt with who use high dollar detectors with digital meters constantly ask me to check if their signal is a nickel or not. Bent or broken tabs, and an occasional piece of can slaw or foil fools it, but other than the bent or broken tabs that's about all that does.
