My wife Irene flew the flight 400/401 trip all the month of December and was very upset that they pulled her off the final trip on December 29th and put her on a flight to Porte Rico because she also spoke Spanish. That flight was later cancelled and she tried to get back on Flight 400/401 to make the final trip of the month because it was very special to her because of the friendship among all the Flight Attendants that flew the trip all month.
Irene was devastated when we heard of the crash that evening,"Eastern Crew Scheduling" called in the early AM to notify me that Flight 401 had gone down and they still had Irene listed as one of the Flight Attendants on the Flight. Irene was frantic trying to find out any information she could about you, Beverly, Mercy and all the other Flight Attendants she flew with all month. Never once did she ever think she was lucky that she was not on the Flight, but devastated that because she did not make the trip that the Attendant that took her place may have died.
Irene was still flying for EAL when she was killed in an auto accident near our home in Cocoa Florida, October 4th 1987.
