That Carol was special is indisputable. She was my friend too and I was one day away from connecting with her in NY, something we'd long planned since meeting in California. I arrived in NY, from a month in Europe, one day after her funeral service. This is what I know: everybody loved her. She was a force of spirit that we think of her thirty five years later. Once a year, I see her face as an extra on the bus at the end of Midnight Cowboy, during the scene where Dustin Hoffman dies. I remember her befriending John Casavettes, admiring him very much. She taught me about the I Ching giving me traditional yarrow stalks, which I still own. I have photos somewhere of her twinkling eyes. I miss her deeply.
