As fate would have it, I was traveling north on the Palmetto Expressway as rescue helicopters streamed overhead to the site of the crash. Immediately I figured a plane had gone down. I turned on the radio in my car and it confirmed my suspicion. Spin the clock ahead a decade and a half and I would be married to a woman who's first cousin, Francoise Riette, was on board. Francoise survived and lives in France. She has told her story on this site, and my wife just read her account and sent it on to me.
