In just about an hour and 15 minutes it will be the 39th anniversary of the crash of Eastern Airlines Flight 401 into the Florida Everglades. This year as I hold close in my heart my fellow crew members and passengers who did not survive, I have added my mother into my heart memories. On Feb 16th she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and she left us to join my Dad in Heaven on July 20th. I think of my Mom and Dad 39 years ago and how they received word about their flight attendant daughter being in a terrible crash but she was ok. I wish that all the families of those who did not survive could have heard the same words. I know tonight that Mom is at peace and very happy with my Dad. I know too that those who did not survive are also at peace and happy. But the memory of their loss is still a painful one. We are continuing on with the Memorial. Our plan now is to dedicate a land memorial 1 year from today. We are awaiting the final confirmation of the site and have already been working on the tentative design. It will not be possible to get it out in the Everglades at this time. We so want them to be remembered on the 40th anniversary! This site will be easily accesible to everyone. It will be a very busy year once we get that approval, but we want all of you who lost loved ones that night to know that the DREAM WILL BECOME A REALITY!!! WE HAVE NEVER GIVEN UP! There have been obstacles, but we are pushing forward! Ron, Mercy, Patty and myself, along with the help of a couple of others here and the help of people around the country like Peter who started and maintains this site will make it a reality!!! 101 souis will be remembered for the contributions towards airline safety that came from the accident that took their lives!!!! Tonight we send our love and prayers to all of you, both families and friends of loved ones lost and fellow survivors. May the memories of the happy times and the love you shared help all the families and friends of those lost. And may those of us who survived humbly give thanks and continue to live lives of service and gratitude. May God bless you all on this 39th anniversary and we look to see you at the dedication one year from today!! Beverly Raposa, Flight Attendant survivor and Ron, Mercy and Patty too.
