I remember he came home late, red eyes and could barely see from crying so hard, all he could say over and over was "I had to call all those families, I had to call all those families". He was hardbroken and devastated.
My father took his own life Nov. 4, 1982, in depression, when Eastern, at the beginning of their shut down, was going to close the door.
He had 28 years seniority was a devoted employee, started the cash sales program, the Air Explorer Scout program, brought the Western look to Management Council Meeting nights and Cash Sales of old uniforms and EAL items to raise funds for the scouting trips. I used to sit in on the morning briefings. I worked for Marsh McLennon as a Claims Changes Clerk across the street from the 36ht street Executive offices.
His Boss was Dan Johnson and he also was the right arm to Frank Borman, the Astronaut, when he was President.
I want my father honored on the EAL FACEBOOK and anywhere else you can honor him. 500+ folks came to his funeral in Nov. of 1982.
