I've been looking for this book for years, and I cannot for the life of me remember the title or author. A woman named Leigh stows away on a ship, disguised as a boy. She is discovered by the captain, Matt Blake, who is a privateer. He takes her home to New Orleans ... eventually they get married and fall in love. It was almost certainly a Harlequin, published in the late '80s. Thanks!
