Unknown title: Childrens book

I read a child's book sometime around 1967 or so. About a boy who fly's off away from home on a friendly Dragon. They Land on an island somewhere w/ orange tree's. The boy eats the oranges, the Dragon eat's the peel. I believe this could have been a two book or maybe a 5 book story, maybe a trilogy?? This was the first book I remember being eager for and just a very fond memory..wish I could remember more. Please reply if you may know this story. Thank you.
