Desperately seeking YA falconry novel

I've been looking for months for two young adult/older children's novels about a young girl who lived in a cave on a mountain and practiced falconry. I believe her name was Elena, Elana, Alana, or something like that. The books also involved a prince, knots, and possibly a golden orb or ball. The second book took place at least partly in a castle where there was a sorcerer or conjurer or some such character. If anyone knows of this book, please please email me.
