Posted by Torch on 9/2/2006, 7:59 pm, in reply to "how would you start a new gotg?" Time is like a river ever flowing forward, and when one travels back in time to a specific point, and ALTERS events preventing them from unfolding the way they were originally known to have unfolded, what actually happens is a NEW alternate Reality is create... basically acting like a branch growing in a new direction, but the original branch still exists, thus, all the GOTG actually did is create an NEW reality for themselves. They can still travel back to their original timestream if they can figure out how... but basically they created a reality where they never needed to form in their original format (similar to what happened to the 1958 Avengers). Like I said though, their original timestream still exists, but they effectively removed themselves from that timestream as they changed their past and when they went forward in that changed timestream the GOTG, as they were known, didn't exist... they were an anomaly. That said, they can STILL travel BACK in time to ANY point before they changed events and re-enter their original timeline, or, since they belong to the SAME timestream in which they were once honorary Avengers they can still travel all the way back to present-day or earlier Earth-616 (yes, I know Vance altered himself when he encountered his younger self and kick-started his psi powers). Anyhow, with all that in mind there is lots of potential, including a chance re-encounter with members of the Galactic Guard (Phoenix, Firelord, Replica, etc.) should both teams travel to the same point in their past. OK, considering the last place the GOTG left off was basically an altered future... there is still something so obvious I don't know why it wasn't considered before...
