Posted by wlackey2 on 12/31/2006, 6:20 pm, in reply to "So, how are the Guardians connected to the present?" As far as "our" history (Earth-616), the Guardians share the same reality as that of Killraven (Earth-691), so in 2001 in their reality, the Martians invaded and the War of the Worlds took place, along with the resultant history afterward, unlike in 616 reality. So they may only be familiar with 616 history as related to them by the Avengers and/or other Earth heroes during their trips to the 20th century of Earth-616. Obviously, the Earth-691 heroes that survived the War of the Worlds (Hollywood, Mainframe, Silver Surfer/Keeper, etc.) have different histories than their Earth-616 counterparts. Clear as mud, right? Again, you may want to check all this out on your own, I may be off on my facts. It's been a while since I read through my Guardians collection. Hope this helps. As far as changing history, I haven't read that thread yet... Wayne --Previous Message--

You may want to check out the Guardians of the Galaxy entry in the Marvel Universe: Alternate Universes 2005 for more specific information, but from what I can remember, here's what went down (and, please, other more-informed posters correct me if I am wrong): Following the Guardians victory over the Badoon, Vance Astro was still very bitter about how things turned out for him in his life leading up to that point, so during a trip to the 20th century, he went and met his younger self to try and convince himself to not become an astronaut, go into space, etc., so things would not turn out the way they did. In essence, all he did was create a divergent reality, and nothing changed for him, per se. In Earth-616 continuity, Vance grew up and became a New Warrior, then an Avenger. The divergence takes place in/around Marvel Two-In-One #69.
: I just recieved a Christmas gift of Guaridans
: #17-21, something that an aunt bought for me
: 10 years ago but just now got around to
: giving me.
:
: Great reads, but it has me wondering... how
: much of the modern history is
: "known" to them? How many
: characters can tell you "exactly"
: what happened to various major heroes,
: villains and situations?
:
: Hollywood, Silver Surfer, etc...
:
: Any others?
:
: To me, stories about the future fall appart
: when they are too tied to what is currently
: known. For example, MC2 seems to be built
: around the way the Marvel Universe was in
: the mid-1990s, only moved forward 15 years.
: It even has Wolverine and Elektra in a
: relationship when such a concept only lasted
: a few issues in modern comics (and it didn't
: make sense even then).
:
: Second question, what's this I read down the
: board about changing history... when did
: this happen? How?
