Posted by Baraka on January 1, 2007, 11:24 am, in reply to "Need advice on feeding malnourished pony/Arabian cross foal" I did trace her roots and discovered that she is only 1/4 pony. Her sire was a 1/2 pony/standardbred cross, and her dam was a very small standardbred mare. Her sire is a purebred Arabian - my stallion, Ansata El Shahraf. At now about 10 months of age, she's small by horse standards. All my Arabian friends are shocked at how prepotent the Arabian has shown up in her head, etc. She even carries her tail like an Arabians. I will breed her to the best Welsh stallion I can find, for that Welara I hope to have I appreciate all your good advice, and hope to meet a few of you someday. Best Wishes for the New Year,

To update, she responded amazingly well to the 5 straight days of Panacur wormer and intensive feeding/red cell program. Within in 2 or 3 weeks (don't remember exactly but am amazingly short period) she had gained 65 pounds. She now has good weight, and her coat even has some shine to it. No more prominent spine, croup & hip bones or ribs showing.
