Posted by Lura Hennings Manter My ponies have been used by local trainers/lesson providers for many years to give lessons to very young beginners. These ponies are extremely people oriented, seek attention from passersby, are gentle with children, sane and quiet when handled. I cannot speak for ALL welaras, of course, as there are variants within every breed, but most owners/breeders I have spoken with tell me theirs have been used in some sort of lesson program, or were their own first horse. I recommend you visit a breeder, and try one or more out. It is a wonderful pony, having such versatile breeds as the Welsh and the Arabian in its foundation.
