Thanks for the reply to my original inquiry. Although there is no way to know for sure, I have finally surmised that the Dora logo on 143198 was painted on as a sign of respect for the plane which she replaced (buno 137891, the original MH-1), which as you stated, was essentially destroyed as a result of hurricane Dora recon. The original MH-1, with the distinctive long radome on top, was traditionally used by the squadron skippers, at least all of them that I knew from 1961 to mid 1963. I never did know what the original purpose of the long radome was. I have a scan of my buno 143198 photo which I can send to you if you are interested. I had to scan it in two sections, since it was too large for my scanner. I also have a photo of the original MH-1 from the internet with the wing tip tank damage. Reply if you are interested.
