Thanks for the input. I often wondered about the flexing. I think the stiffer wings of the P3's would make for a bumpier ride. I left the squadron (1966-1968) before the connies left JAX.
The roughest flight I had was takeoff from JAX on a training flight to take some fellas home for Christmas in Detroit and the Twin Cities. There were thunderstorms in the area and we were delayed for a while. Finally, getting permission for takeoff, were were airborne, then a long drop down, climb some more and again dropped quite a ways, this was repeated many times. I thought we were never to gain altitude. Finally we did and the rest of the flight was smooth. I did not even think of looking out at the wingtips at that point. We had one fella (not one from our squadron) just hanging onto the armrests and he looked quite scared, his eyes were wide open, wondering if we were going up or down.
The hurricanes I was in I did not feel the bottom as hard as those from the thunderstorms.
