Just to (unfortunately) correct a misconception stated in this article: the auther states "the days of people with disabilities in freak shows is not all that far behind us". I have to tell you that at last year's N.C. State Fair, there was a woman with spina bifida (I think) in a booth behind a curtain. You paid a $1 to go see her. She sat there stoically. She was marketed as "The shortest adult woman alive". I bought the postcard (of herself) to keep as a permanent reminder that we have a lot to do. When I went in to view her, which I did because I could not believe what I feared, I mumbled something to her like, "Hello...My daughter has a disability..." She smiled and was friendly. She is choosing this as employment (she is a private vendor) I guess. I felt such an odd confused mix of emotions. Betsy
