Posted by Jeff Welch I am proud of Terri Schiavo for letting family members know prior to her illness that she did not wish to be kept alive by artificial means should she become permanently and profoundly disabled. I am proud of Michael Schiavo and his years-long fight to seek treatments, therapies, and hope for Terri to improve. I am proud of our court system for upholding the right of Terri Schiavo to have her wishes respected. I am ashamed of Congress and this President for trying to interfere in this private family decision. I am ashamed of the media who have splashed this poor woman and family's tragedy into the public domain. I am ashamed of my fellow Americans who are using terms like "murder" to describe Terri Schiavos dying process, and since I myself have participated in similar decisions for a family member, for calling ME a murderer - and worse. -Jeff

Personally I am proud to live in a nation that both values people with disabilities - even profound ones - and respects the right of individuals and those who love them to determine their destiny.
