Posted by Dave Reynolds When I wrote that I had decided "to focus specifically on the disability perspective", I meant as opposed to the "death with dignity" vs "right to life", "liberal vs. conservative", "Republican vs Democrat", or any other political or social debate that has developed out of this situation. If I wrote that in a way which did not make that clear, I sincerely apologize. Perhaps it would have been more clear if I wrote "disability rights perspective". I did not claim to "represent" the disability perspective (any more, by the way, than you claimed to represent the disability community when you wrote that I had done "the disability community a HUGE disservice" ). To the contrary. That's one reason why I introduced the section with this: "The death Thursday of Terri Schiavo has touched countless people, each in different ways." It's also why I included the links to all of the 8 different opinion pieces I found from people within the disability community (along with a dozen others earlier in the week), and 8 more articles that included quotes or opinions from people within the disability community. I would suggest to you that this in fact shows a diversity of opinions in the disability community -- not that this group "speaks with one voice" on this or any other issue. Their points of view -- and those of the more than two dozen national disability organizations that have made policy statements regarding this -- have as much, if not more, validity than either yours or mine. That's precisely why I include them. I have considered you and I allies in the disability rights movement going back to the late 1990s, and have come to respect your opinions. So I'm terribly sorry to disappoint you and that you felt I was being "eggregious, arrogant, and prejudicial". Like you I am proud to live in a country where I can express my opinions and respect your right to express yours. Thank you, Dave Reynolds, Editor
