Tom LaQuey will probably have to take his case to court if he wants to hunt with a cross bow during archery season. Some government agencies just can't seem to see past their own regulatory noses when it comes to "reasonable accomodations". LaQuey has a strong case though, since most bow hunters and archers, including myself, use some mechanical aids. Today's highly sophisticated compound bows have pulleys and cables allowing for greater pull weights, accuracy, and arrow speed. Mechanical "trigger" releases are commonly used, and they are LEGAL! The additonal mechanical aids found on a crossbow are a reasonable accomodation for someone with LaQuey's type of disability, but unfortunately, he'll probably have to prove his case in court. The goal in bow hunting is to kill a game animal silently, at close range. Technical improvements to archery equipment mean greater accuracy, resulting in fewer injured or maimed animals. Crossbows are similar, philosophically and mechanically, to today's compound bows. To compare them to a "gun" because they have a trigger release is nonsense. I support LaQuey.
