That was one good post!!! The other thing i would like to add is imo the pedigree doesnt make the dog the dog makes the pedigree. and i try and find a stud that will not only complment my female but also pick up where she's lacking. The other thing i like to look for being a show and working person i like try and find a dog that is accomplished in something working titles are nice as are conformation titles.
A little shout out to my man Jason over at Double B's; his male Roscoe is a dream dog! He has some experience in bite work and have seen it first hand. He took 1st at the JDJ show this past year and as soon as he came off the bite and left the field he turned off the drive and was happy to be around the kids again. It was nice to see that amount of drive in a big ol' jdog and his temperment is just wonderful!!!! IMO its getting harder and harder to find a high drive with a nice on off switch with an excellent temperment. And not to mention Jason is a pretty ok guy as well. LOL

: First of all i like to say that i have not been in the breed longer than you have.
: The way i do it and would recomend a new breeder to do it based upon my own knowlage
: is:
: #1Buy a good book about dog breeding, it should cover everything from inbreeding to
: basic genetics.
: #2get a coi program and calculate your breedings, higher coi = higher risk, it could
: be done but you need experience. To much inbreeding is verry harm full and
: degenerating to a breed.
: #3only use pen hipped stock, i think the"140%rule" (yes i made it up
: myself ),meaning you don't breed dogs who's combined PH% is greater than 140,is a
: good rule. For ex.90%+50%, 80%+60%, 70%+70%and so on..
: #4find out your dogs weaknesses and try to breed it to a dog thats strong where your
: dog is weak.
: #5To breed dogs successfully you need to have a critical eye and be able to judge
: your own dogs
: #6theres no such thing as a perfect dog, all we can do is use our best knowledge to
: try make it better!!
: Hope this helps, good luck!!
