Ok folks... as I'm reading my post from last night.. I realized I rambled a little bit...
so.. Let me say this... I am more than happy with my dog Belle, I do want honest opinions from everyone..It's not going to change how I feel about my dog, but it may help educate me about this breed.... When I contacted the breeder to show my interst in his dogs...I wanted a Bully faced dog but not as bully as my last one cause she slimed my leg everytime she came over to say hello in the summertime! MY girlfriend at the time choked on her drink one evening because I forgot to put Loosey outside before I changed into my Suit... I was running backwards through the house trying not to get slimed and at the same time trying to get Loosey to go out back.. LOL!..
Anyways...
So this time around, I went with a slightly less bully looking pup... but only to alleviate the drooling issue.. Like I said.. I'm happy with Belle...I think she will turn out to be even better looking than I had hoped! The dandruff issue isn't really an issue, just a matter of finding the food that her body likes best. She doesn't itch or scratch at all....The Breeder I got her from has been great and every time we talk we're on the phone for at least an hour... sharing picture and stuff! He's great and checks up on Belle periodically to make sure she's doing ok and also to make sure that I'm happy with her. Even in dealing with Akita’s, I’ve never had a breeder stand behind their dogs with as much pride as Aaron!

: Hi James and welcome to the board. You might want to try Lipiderm Healthy Skin and
: Coat. You add it to their food. It is highly recommenend by a bunch of people i know
: who have some of the same issues. Its faily cheap you can get it in either gel caps
: or liquid. caps go for about 20-25$ and the liquid is 8oz bottle for about $8-$10.
: hope it works!!! And good luck cant want to see your baby!

: Hello all!
: My name is James Davis. I'm pretty new to this breed.. I spent about 13 years with
: Akita's and then discovered American Bulldogs... I've been addicted since... My
: first AB I was told was from Johnson lines.... now I now that she did have a little
: bit of Johnson blood in her but the breeder seemed to be doing more
: "Hybrid" type breeding. When I went back to get another one, I was not at
: all happy with how his current dogs were looking and what he was producing.. I'm not
: an expert on AB's by any means... But I have my own vision of what "MY"
: perfect AB would look like... Reading Mr "J's" idea's and what he wanted
: to accomplish has made me rethink my idea's, but generally I was on the right track.
:
: My first question to you all is this:
: I have always had dogs of color... After reading the standard for AB's.. I came to
: terms that a mostly white dog is most desirable in Mr "J's" opinion. I
: don't personally think they are the BEST looking.... but when I did my research and
: learned about all the cross breed breeding with mastiffs and bull mastiffs and even
: Pit's and other dogs.. I learned to love the White's.
: But my pup has some serious Dandruff going on !! I have tried changing food and it
: does have an effect on it... I tried the Purina one that was given to me when I
: purchased the pup, but her skin was red on her belly and the dandruff flakes were
: pretty big and plentiful...
: then I tried "Wellness" Brand dog food for puppies... The guy at the feed
: store recommended it along with some other supplement called "The Missing
: Link" super supplement. All the supplement did was give her Diarrhea.. Even
: when I started off with low doses then worked up to the full amount. The wellnes bag
: is almost $40 bucks for a 30 lb bag.... not 40.. 30lbs.. Hella expensive.. but it
: worked good and cleared up her eczema type rashes an all her exposed skin on her
: underside.. I tried something a little cheaper... about half the price of Wellness
: and it contains no Wheat or Corn in it which I think might be causing her skin
: irritation.. It happened with a couple of my Akita's causing "Hotspots"..
:
: Anyways.. I'm just wondering if any of you have any suggestions.. The Purina
: definitely made her skin worse when I tried to go back... Wellness is the answer so
: far.. but it's so expensive.. I'll buy it if I half to..
: Her weight is good. She's nice and slim... I'll post some pics when I figure out
: how... She's not as Bully faced as I would like, but I didn't want her to drool as
: bad as my previous AB did, cause she is an indoor dog..
:
: This is a great website and I've been keeping up with you guys for a couple months
: now just listening to what everyone has to say...
