Hi Randy,
Not all Bulldogs are created equal, unfortunately. Some lines do excel with man work, but it has been my experience that over the years there is not much going on past biting the sleeve for photo op's. Rarely do you see going into blinds or very much obedience?? I'm very sure that if I am wrong I will be corrected....Yes the 100% Johnson AB's have the reputation for being the biggest, although some hybrids get pretty big too. What I think I can say with some degree of confidence is that the 100% Johnson dog CAN be worked, and keep their wind, BUT you must condition the dog for the wind, just like any other athlete. Unfortunately bigger is better usually means FAT...need I say more? If the first question asked of me when someone inquires about my dogs is "How big are they", I will cut the conversation short. In my world there is no room for a dog that is not in condition, I just don't see a dog claimed to be 140 lbs doing anything but looking for an oxygen mask, and the AC.
As far a structure, well, sometimes the bigger the dog the wider the elbows. In this case wider may not be better. If you are doing man work only I guess you might be fine, but you would NOT want to subject a dog like that to a retrieve over a hurdle, or a very steep A frame....
Wow, that may be the most I have ever said on this board, but it is something that we really believe in here at our kennels.
I posted this further down on the page but I'll put it up again, the dogs in the vid are all 100% Johnson males, BB King is almost 3, Purple Haze is 17 months and Bob Marley is 6 months when this was shot. I'll stop now..........LOL
