I read Dons answer and I gotta say that we faced that same tragedy a year ago. we had this beautyful ab female called teodora fortuna. some johnson backround but hybrid anyway. she came to our family two years ago and she grew up to a nice bulldog; great temperament, good muscles etc. she won her first and the only show we took her as a classic puppy - she even won the bis classic puppy. that was nkc sanctioned...what ever - shows are shows. anyway - everything seemed to go fine until we took her to x-rays to check hips and elbows. elbows were excellent but hips...that was terrifying - there was very low cups and lot of changes in the joints/bones. doctor told us that there's living time for this bulldot from few months to ten years. well - we tried every treatment to take care of her and our insurance company didn't pay anything. so we payed every treatments by ourselves....lot of money and tears 'cause nothing seemed to work. our kids didn't realise what was going on but after last years summer she was going worse and worse week by week. we gave her pain killers and started to prepare our kids that what was going on with their good friend. she was tryin' to be brave but the last weekend - week before christmas - she threw up all painkillers and we decided that now it's time for the last journey. monday morning my wife called to the vet and we got time after four pm... so when we left from home - our male bulldog seemed to know where we were going and also Tefi knew that this is the last goodbye. we took our kids with us 'cause they wanted to come. we thought that it's better to take these things as they are - no lies and stories. our oldest kid - son - couldn't come with us. he left to his friends. so we drove to the vet and had a long discuss with him before the last shot. after that Tefi got the last shot and died to my, my wife and our small daughters arms... my wife took the kids outside and I carried Tefi to another room to wait for the transportation next week. january we got her dust in a box and we're going to bury her on our yard - after this winter. that's what our kids wanted to do so I respect their willing.
so here's a heart breaking story but it's all true. I gotta say that this was one of the worst things in our life and we don't wanna see it again. if we do - fortunately we know what to expect... but as we know how terrible this can be - if we are going to breed in future - we don't wanna give this kind of experience to anyone.
thanx for reading and hope you understand my english...
