Well, I got Loveless in the mail yesterday. It would be a lot more interesting, I think, if the following steps were taken:
1. A higher mixing and care taken to the drums which seem almost absent on over half the album
2. For all of the mixing and layering of guitars, you think that Shields could've taken the time to add a bass guitar to that mix.
3. Perhaps toning down the guitars to make room for the vocals. According to Wikipedia, they spent countless hours on the lyrics, which I feel is a waste since you can't even hear them being sung anyway.
Other than that, I do find it to be a decent album, and the layering of sounds does have a flourishing, ethereal feel to it. I think that if there was a massive overhaul remastering session, the album may not feel as boring. I'd still give it an A-.
