I actually bought this yesterday, as well as Dirt by Alice in Chains. I got the chance to sit most of the way through it on my way to class tonight, due to traffic and I do find it to be a leather booting to the seat of my pants, but not without complaints (of course).
Some of these songs are hampered by the vocals to where you can't even understand the lyrics, and then there are points where the lyrics are ever so clear, yet I am craving for a freak microphone-down-the-throat accident due to unnecessary mantra bullshit ("I'll Never Forget You"). Then of course, the ridiculous "Hare Krsna," which is I'm sure what you meant by "filler," as well as your mentioning of shitty production.
Aside from that, the album (from what I've heard thus far) kicks my ass all up and down the sidewalk. Apart from the annoying chanting of "I'll Never Forget You," the groove itself rocks tits. I've only heard up to track 14 thus far, but the only real butt slush is "Hare Krsna" which could've just been normal filler and cut to like 45 seconds tops, but instead drones for 3 and 1/2 minutes. No sir! I'm going to be consuming the rest on the drive home, and I'm really looking forward to it. The songs roll by so quick that you can come back and listen to it again (not to mention that most are an aural assault). So far so good.
PS: How the hell do you pronounce their name? Hüsker Dü, like Nebraska Corn Huskers Doo?
Or is it Hoosker Doo? Damn umulats.
