I won't go so far as to say it's the best drumming I've ever heard, but John has a point. The main factor between Bruford and Collins is that Bruford inspired Collins, and when the 80s rolled around, Bruford spent his time revamping his entire mode of attack, while Collins succumbed to 80s genericism, and preferred the use of drum machines instead. Granted he pulled off some great feats with drum machines, but in the end they seized control of him to where he never recovered.
