I think it's just a case of me diggin' his style. He had an irreplaceable style. Sometimes, admittedly, it was just noise, but (and this is why I like it) it was COOL noise, and it worked.
Listen to the riffing on Bone Machine. Wild, all over the place - and awesome. And the "great build-up to the chorus" on Gigantic that Starostin mentioned? Santiago. Also check out the guitar work on Hey and Gouge Away...
It's just that the more I listen to the guitar playing, the more I like it. I don't say he's underrated because he's my favorite guitarist or anything, just 'cause I never hear his playing mentioned at all. He doesn't deserve that "the other guy" placement that he seems to get.
