Is it the inferiority of the plot that you want me to elaborate on? It's pretty obvious that, no matter how much you like the gameplay, the story of GTA 4 is pretty nondescript. It was nothing that GTA fans haven't seen before. No matter how much you hated San Andreas, you'd have to admit how creative the story was. Yes, it was random, but that was part of the charm. Rockstar struck a balance between realism and fun that was lost in translation when they upscaled the franchise to the new generation. Now I can go on about the story, but you seem to care more about the gameplay. I thought the article I presented earlier (http://www.videogamer.com/features/article/06-05-2008-396.html) proved the point well enough but apparently not. You see not only did they take out a SHITLOAD of what made San Andreas fun, such as the mini-games, taxi missions, exploring through wilderness, character customization, car customization, car surfing, character interaction, ect, but it poorly implemented the new crap that they added in. Hand to hand combat is basically impossible; The driving is terrible; and the cellphone is so sloppy I can barely use it.
Similar to what Nolol said about Halo, I think there isn't any heart to GTA 4. This is ironic concidering there's actually a beating heart in Liberty City which is the only easter egg the game has in comparison to the legendary UFO and Bigfoot sitings in San Andreas. I hope this game is a rudimentry version of the final GTA on these platforms just like GTA 3 was. Otherwise I'm done with this franchise.
