What about Resident Evil?

I've never played Halo and GTA (other than II) all that much, so no opinion on those, but I've been wondering if RE4 is worth it, which is one of the few hyped games I haven't played at all. Reviews seem either fanboy-ish or extremely critical: some say that if it was a shooter people would hate it, but because it's a survival horror game it draws in different kind of fans with different (lower?) expectations, yet other people say the game doesn't have enough survival horror.

Difficult to judge at any rate.
