You are not in college to go to class. You are in college to get good grades and to grow as a person. Certainly you have to go to class some of time (and some times are more important to attend than others) to get good grades, but you need to treat class as a means rather than an end.
In my junior and senior years, I adopted the following philosophy re: attendance:
1. You must attend on days when a quiz/test is known/possible.
2. You must turn in all homework on time, and attend class when that is necessary for turning in homework.
3. Apart from that, all attendance is optional.
My junior and senior years were the best academic years of my life.
