Inspired by the thread on Babble, I encourage you to pick up some Slayer. A lot their riffs are ####ing wicked, like on Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood. And Tom Araya's vocals aren't too far of a cry away from Hetfield's (and a mix of Ian Gillan's scream), so it shouldn't be too hard of an adjustment. It's fast as hell, and as I said, the riffs are awesome. It's just how you feel about their whole Satanic image they put on. If you can get past that (which I don't think you'll have too much of a problem doing) it's worth it.
