It wasn't Shel Talmy who wrote their High Numbers' singles. It was Pete Meaden, who was the assistant to Andrew Loog Oldham (the Rolling Stones' manager), as well as a mod (English teen subculture) fan. Shel Talmy actually "wrote" 'Bald Headed Woman', a strangely neglected b-side that kicks more ass than the James Brown covers ("wrote" is written in quotation marks because it was a traditional number that he re-arranged for The Who and The Kinks).
