But of course, I'm not John. Of course, the 5 star artist is the real mystery. Stevie Wonder makes sense, but the only other ones I see as real contenders are Kate Bush and The Beach Boys. I think The Beach Boys are doubtful, but it's entirely possible Pet Sounds has become a perfect album to John - it has to many others, after all - but I can't think of any other album that would be a 14/E/whatever.
Kate Bush could be The Dreaming as the 15/F, and The Kick Inside or Hounds of Love as an E or something.
Stevie Wonder is obvious.
I can't think of any remaining artists that I could fathom as being 5 stars than those 3. Can anybody else? I would say Ween, but I think his Flaming Lips reviews disproved that.
I really hope it's not Kate Bush, because she is waaaay down the itinerary.

: I know we've had some disagreements over Tom
: Waits, but on the up-side, I predicted them!
: In fact, I correctly predicted that both
: Television and Tom Waits would be 3-star
: artists, after John's latest cryptical
: outing.
: Regarding which, here's the updated
: situation:
:
: Among the bands currently on the itinerary
: these ratings will be distributed:
:
: 1-star: 7
: 2-star: 4
: 3-star: 15
: 4-star: 3
: 5-star: 1
:
: And here's my new guesses.
:
: 1-star - The Nice, Big Star, Neutral Milk
: Hotel, Pearl Jam, The Stone Roses, Jefferson
: Airplane, The Buggles
:
: 2-star - Love, Tom Petty, Peter Hammill, Van
: Halen
:
: 3-star - ABBA, Renaissance, Joy Division,
: Nirvana, George Harrison, Sly & The
: Family Stone, XTC, Steve Hackett, Pixies,
: Steely Dan, The Beach Boys, U2, Simon &
: Garfunkel, Ween, Kate Bush
:
: 4-star - Elvis Costello, Sparks, Paul
: McCartney
:
: 5-star - Stevie Wonder
:
: It's mostly the same, except for taking into
: greater consideration John's love for
: sprawling messy double albums, which
: accounts for putting Stevie Wonder as the
: 5-star (even if I still feel uneasy about,
: but hey, someone's gotta be up there), as
: well as moving up George Harrison and Elvis
: Costello a category each (and downgrading
: Van Halen and Kate Bush, the first because I
: don't know why I thought John would give
: them 3 stars in the first place, and the
: second because I love her and John's a jerk,
: ergo).
:
: I feel fairly confident about the 1 and 2
: star artists (perhaps wrongly) but the 3/4
: star ones are a real bother.
: At least I'm just about 99% sure Big Star
: will only be a 1-star, which we'll find
: about soon enough.
:
: A few notes to keep in mind, because if I
: don't mention them someone else always does:
:
: 1. Yes, John posted his Top 100 (or
: whatever) at some point, but it's
: drastically outdated.
:
: 2. Yes, Brian Wilson's Smile appeared on
: high (quite high, 40 or something I
: believe), and yes, John has stated he
: prefers it over the recently released The
: Smile Sessions .
:
: 3. No, the rating of a Brian Wilson solo
: album will not count towards the overall
: rating of The Beach Boys (which should mean
: it can't possibly be an F or E).
:
: 4. Keep in mind, getting a single F-rated
: album is not in and of itself enough for 5
: stars, you need a second album with an
: E-rating (actually it's even more
: complicated than that, and John promised to
: post the function he uses at one point, but
: never did).
