I was looking over my PH reviews today while adding quotes to the song titles, and I found it curious that I didn't like the phrasing of my critique of Brooker's voice from so long ago, and yet I can't think of a better way to express my opinion. I'm not even necessarily sure that a more expressive singer would have helped make Procol Harum a better band in my eyes, since more expression might have undermined some of what they were trying to do otherwise. I do think, though, that if a more expressive singer wouldn't have helped the band, then this is a clear limitation (albeit relatively minor) on the band as whole that would make it impossible for them to get more than a *** from me in any case (though honestly, if a group gets a *** from me that means I really like them in the grand scheme of things).
