Just had a first listen to Valtari, the new Sigur Ros release. My first impression is the album is very soothing, it doesn't grab your attention very much, but there is a sense of beauty in every song. They have left the poppy sound from their previous album completely and went more for the soundscapes from ( ), but slowing it down and getting rid of the 'brutal' parts of that album.
Although the album sounds good and SR went for beauty and peacefullness over attention grabbing, I had hoped for something more appealling and immediately grabbing out. For now the album is too close to average soundscape / ambiet music to me, without much else to make it a special listen.
Anyone else heard it?
